Q&A with A. Jean: Bound By Prophecy: Shadows of The Faye, Book 1
Welcome to the Q&A page for Bound By Prophecy... Previously Titled: Embers and Shadows! Here, I answer some of the most frequently asked questions about my book, my writing process, and what you can expect from my stories.
Let's Dive Into The Questions...
1. What inspired you to write Bound By Prophecy?
So funnily enough, Bound By Prophecy is no joke an ADHD daydream. When I get bored, I zone out, and my mind starts creating intricate storylines, almost like a movie playing in my head. Over the years, I’ve had dozens of these stories, but I was never brave enough to actually write them down. Typically, my brain just moves on to the next idea, but this time it wouldn’t budge. After two years of snippets and ideas swirling in my mind, I finally decided to put everything together and write the damn thing with some encouragement!

2. Can you tell us about the main characters in Bound By Prophecy?
Absolutely! The story centers around Aurora Sarro, our main female character (FMC), and five male love interests (MMCs): Demitri, Aidan, Cillian, Sebastian, and Slade. Aurora is a 32-year-old ballerina with a painful past, which we explore further in future books. After a traumatic childhood, including losing her mother and experiencing abuse in foster care, her life changes on prom night thanks to Demitri, who saves her from a tragic fate. Unfortunately, he goes to jail for his actions, as the parents involved were wealthy and influential.
Years later, when Demitri reenters her life, the story begins, filled with prophecies and destinies. Aidan is a psychologist, and Cillian owns the dance studio where Aurora works; they are brothers. Sebastian is a doctor she meets along the way, and Slade is our sexy, mysterious incubus.

3. What themes do you explore in your book?
The themes in Bound By Prophecy include self-discovery, found family, overcoming trauma, and the duality of good and evil. I delve into the importance of learning to let go of the past.

4. How did you develop the fantasy world in Bound By Prophecy?
A lot of it came from daydreaming and extensive fantasy research. I spent many hours researching names and staring at blank walls. I have a fascination with San Francisco; I’m not sure why, but I always gravitate towards it in my daydream storylines. So I decided to make book one based in San Francisco.

5. What is the significance of the title Bound By Prophecy? And why was the title changed from Embers and Shadows?
The title Bound By Prophecy, highlights the fated mates trope and the high-stakes destiny that drives the plot in the book. As for why the title changed... this was the first book I ever finished writing, the first book I titled and published. I started playing around with title ideas about half way through the first draft of the book and came up with Embers and Shadows. Which was okay and represented the contrast between light and dark. Embers spark fires, while Shadows consume the light! The title was meant to encapsulate the themes of light versus dark and the struggles Aurora faces throughout the story, but after I wrote book two and started my new series which ties into this one... I wasn't loving the title as much. When the book finally made it to a professional editor and was tweaked, I decided the new and improved book needed a brand new title... Which is how Bound By Prophecy came to be.

6. What challenges did you face while writing Bound By Prophecy?
My characters often like to hijack the plot, which led to writer's block at times. Figuring out how to get the book published was another challenge, but I learned so much through the process!

7. Are there any real-life inspirations behind your characters or story?
Honestly, not that I can think of right off the top of my head. The characters and plot developed more from my imagination than direct real-life inspiration.

8. What can readers expect from the future books in this series?
Expect more action, more adventure, and definitely more spicy content! The second book takes us into a different world, where we learn even more about our characters and their journeys.

9. Do you have a favorite scene or moment in Bound By Prophecy?
Hands down, Sebastian’s POV chapter and the kitchen scene—if you know, you know! I absolutely love that scene!

10. How do you balance writing with your life on the farm?
Hahaha, what’s balance? My life is chaos 99% of the time! In all honesty, I manage it very carefully, juggling my responsibilities while finding time to write.

11. What advice would you give to aspiring indie authors?
Just write your book, even if you think no one will read it—write the book! Don’t be afraid to ask for advice or help; many indie authors, including myself, love to support and guide new authors on their journey.

Bonus Question: Why is your word 'Faye' spelled with a 'y', normally it's spelled fae?
Great question! My Faye are not fae from Faeries like most people think of them. I didn’t want my faye to be connected to Faeries in any way, so I changed the spelling. I know some people might see my title and assume it's a typo, but it's intentional, 100%. Small Spoiler: My faye are more connected to the goddesses and gods, which is why it's spelled differently. There are Light Faye, Dark Faye, and Twilight Faye. I have a whole document about it that I wrote.
